There are so many topics that you can be creating content on, but how can you pick content ideas about topics that consistently generate more traffic?

In this article, we are going to break down for you how to come up with blog topic ideas that consistently generate traffic.

Hi there, and welcome back to Serendipity Marketing. We're a digital marketing agency with a mission to help small businesses grow by applying psychology to their marketing strategies.

Before we get started, please go ahead and follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram.

So, let’s go straight to the point.

Analyse your competitors

The first thing you want to do to get the right content ideas for higher traffic is to use a free online tool named Ubersuggest. Once you are there, you can put in your domain name or even one of your competitors if you don't get much traffic to see what they're blogging on.

But we recommend that you first start off by putting in your own domain name. And when you put in your own domain name, you’ll want to click on similar websites.

This breaks down all the other similar websites that are related to yours. So, when you put in your URL, it'll allow you to analyse your competitors. And you'll see a list where you’ll want to pick the ones that are truly related to your website.

So, at this point, scroll down and you want to look at keyword gaps. Keyword gaps show you all the keywords that your competitors rank for and that you don't rank for.

This way, if you don't rank for those keywords, you can then write an article on that topic.

Next, you'll want to go into your own WordPress backend or your blogging backend and search for posts with that term.

So, for example, let’s say we are searching for the “podcast advertising” term. If we do it on our website, we don’t really have content specifically about podcast advertising such as, how podcasts advertising works or how to advertise on podcasts.

Those are just examples of podcasts advertising. So, if we go back to page one, we can then look at who’s ranking for “podcast advertising”.

The number one ranking site is Midroll, the world's largest podcast advertising network.

If we analyse this URL in the Ubersuggest tool, we can see the visits they get and all the other keywords that the URL ranks for.

What you'll want to do is export these keywords so that have a list of keywords that you can include in your blog posts.

If when you analyse URLs, you find that the second one gets more visits than the first one, the reason is that the second one is going after more keywords than just the one that you found those URLs for.

Sadly, no matter how good you are at SEO, a lot of it has to do with content quality and factors that you can't control, such as relevancy, and how much authority your site has in the niche.

But what you'll want to do is to load up a few of the blog posts.

So, you’ll want to take some time reading the blog posts that rank on the first page to see what they're doing really well. And then I can end up trying to create a better version of it.

See what they're doing that's unique and just try to create a better version.

So, here it’s important that you don’t just copy them. You want to take inspiration to then create better versions of it.

So, you want to poke holes. What is their content not covering? Is it up-to-date? Do they talk about networks where you can advertise on podcasts? Do they talk about what you should be paying?

The more end up you can get, the better you can be. The better you can separate yourself from the other competitors, the more likely you are to rank.

Alright, now before we move on with the next content ideas, have you ever thought about how much you should invest in marketing to generate constant business growth? Click the button below to calculate the ideal marketing budget you should allocate for higher visibility, engagement, and profit.

How much should you invest in Digital Marketing?

Get to know the most trending topics

Another excellent tool to get content ideas is Google Trends where you simply have to type in keywords related to your industry and it will show you keywords and topics that are trending right now.

This way, you can get to know the most popular terms and keywords that people are searching for in your industry.

This means that you can create content based on what your target users are actively looking for. And not just topics based on the assumption that people are interested in, but actual realistic data about what’s currently going on in your industry.

You can also filter by geolocation so that if you target a specific country or city, you can see the most popular topics and keywords in that location.

Creating content around the most trending topics and keywords means that you’ll have much more chances to rank as there are much more searches happening on search engines compared to other topics.

And this is something that will help you outdrive more traffic.

So, once you know topics and keywords to create content about, you’ll want to follow the same procedure as the previous point to make sure you pick the best keywords and create better content than your competitors who are ranking on the first page.

And if there are a lot of people looking for those terms and your content is so amazing that you get clicks and people spend time on it, Google will see your content as valuable to be shown more and more.

This way, you’ll rank higher and drive even more traffic to your web pages.

Optimise and promote your content

After you do this, the work isn’t finished. What you’ll want to do is to try to make your content better over time.

When we say update it, maybe there are images that you can include. Maybe there are videos that you can include to get your message across better.

As time passes, there are things that you can add to your content to make it more up-to-date.

This will generate a much better user experience and show Google that your content is good to be shown first.

And then, the other thing you’ll want to do is to promote the content. Don't forget the marketing in content marketing.

You can use social media and paid ads to promote your content and drive more traffic. And the more traffic and retention you get, the more the platforms will push your content driving even higher traffic which will be long-lasting in the long term.

Conclusion

This is how you can create content that drives traffic. You have to really go and dig deep, see what your competitors are ranking for that you are not. That's what the keyword gaps are all about.

And then you have to create content around that topic that is better than what others are doing and brings higher value to your target audience.

If you follow these steps, you’ll make sure you’ll don’t just drive traffic for a limited amount of time, but it will be constant and long-lasting in the long term.
